DCCC Supports America's College Promise Act
THOMASVILLE, N.C., July 28, 2015 – The College of Davidson and Davie Counties (DCCC) announces support of The America’s College Promise Act introduced by Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Rep. Bobby Scott. The legislation will provide a waiver of two years of community college tuition, allowing for greater access to higher education for millions of students.
The Act is modeled upon the proposal presented by President Obama in his 2015 State of the Union address. The bill recognizes that more than two-thirds of jobs will require post-secondary training or education in the next few years.
DCCC is one of many community colleges joining forces to support the legislation and provide a path to first-generation, low-income and others to higher education, which will assure communities and citizens a brighter future, both economically and socially.
“DCCC is proud to be providing students with new and innovative means of becoming college ready,” states the President of DCCC, Mary Rittling. “Our students now have the confidence to succeed in course work and subsequently transition into a career or four-year program. DCCC has joined with other community colleges in our state to make sure the workforce of the future is ready and sustainable for decades to come.”
Investment into the community college model, combined with innovative methods to meet the needs of today’s students allows for expanded access and success for the future of our country and its communities. The legislation and its funding begins a national conversation on the role the community college plays in fulfilling the American dream and DCCC is pleased to be part of the dialogue.
