DCCC Offers Travel Abroad Opportunities
June 11, 2015 – Davidson County Community College is offering several opportunities for travel and study abroad in spring 2016. Destinations include Ireland, Central Europe and Portugal as well as a specialized health care and nursing experience in London. The trips are open to DCCC students and members of the community.
“The benefits of study abroad are virtually endless. Nothing is more inherently educational than travel, and our programs are specifically designed to give our students and community participants the best international experience possible,” says Suzanne LaVenture, director of international education at DCCC. “Participants gain confidence, learn more about themselves, and earn valuable workforce skills and knowledge. In addition, traveling the world is incredibly fulfilling and fun.”
Ireland – March 4-12, 2016
Travel across Ireland from Dublin to Bundoran, Ireland’s famous surf town, during this spring break excursion. In addition, learn about Irish history, literature and culture. Space is limited to 24 participants. The approximate cost is $2,800, with a non-refundable $200 deposit.
Central Europe – May 16-25, 2016
Experience Central Europe while visiting Berlin, Prague, Krakow and Budapest. Try traditional foods, visit historical locations and experience the culture on this 10-day tour. The approximate cost is $3,400, with a non-refundable $200 deposit. Application deadline is December 2015.
Portugal – May 20-29, 2016
Explore historic Portugal and discover ancient castles, Roman ruins, groves of lemon and almond trees, quiet whitewashed villages and the gentle Portuguese people on this trip sponsored by DCCC through Collette Guided Travel and intended primarily for members of the community. The approximate program fee is $3,499. Application deadline is Nov. 13. A deposit of $250 reserves a spot and is refundable until Nov. 20.
Health Care & Nursing in London – May 16-22, 2016
This trip, intended primarily for DCCC nursing students, offers learning opportunities through tours of specialized London medical facilities. Students learn how Florence Nightingale struck the balance between compassion and innovation that led to development of modern nursing practices. Other students and community members may participate and experience cultural immersion, London’s health care system and historical locations. The approximate cost is $2,900.
All study abroad and travel trips sponsored by DCCC require enrollment by participants in an associated class in spring 2016. Trip fees generally include round trip airfare, hotel accommodations, land transportation, some meals and professional tour directors.
