DCCC to Offer Part Time Child Care to Students, Faculty and Staff
Aug. 5, 2013 – Davidson County Community College is making it even easier for those with children to take part in college classes with the addition of child care on campus. Beginning in the fall semester, part time child care services will be offered in the evenings on campus.
The service, open to any student enrolled in fall semester courses, as well as faculty and staff, is available for a nominal fee for children ages 3 to 6. It will be offered from 5:45 to 9 p.m. on Monday through Thursday at the Child Development Center on the Davidson Campus.
“By offering child care, we are hoping to eliminate barriers that may prevent students from continuing or completing their education at DCCC,” says Margaret Annunziata, faculty member in the Teacher Education program at DCCC. “A large percentage of our students have young children for whom care can often be difficult to find – especially in the evening hours. The college is committed to meeting this need to allow parents to take classes and access college resources while knowing that their children are being well cared for in a safe and enjoyable learning environment.”
Annunziata notes the parent or guardian must be on campus – be it in class, the Learning Commons or other campus facilities – the entire time the child is in the program. Also, parents must complete an application and enrollment packet to ensure all necessary information is compiled before accessing the service.
