DCCC International Education Committee to Celebrate Other Cultures with ‘Living Local – Thinking Global’ Event
March 14, 2013 – The International Education Committee at Davidson County Community College will celebrate many cultures by hosting Living Local – Thinking Global International Celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and again from 5 to 7 p.m. on March 21 in the Brinkley Gym on the Davidson Campus. The event is open to the public.
Carolyn Davis, coordinator of International Student Activities, explains the idea of the event is to give the community – both on and off campus – an opportunity to experience other cultures.
“This international, cultural exchange is an event appropriate for all ages,” says Davis. “It’s designed to engage our students in multicultural exploration and to give them a platform in which to share the things they have learned.”
Students, as well as faculty and staff, have planned a European market-like atmosphere with information about countries from around the world, including photos, artifacts, baked goods and more. Students and teachers will be dressed in traditional clothing, providing handouts and presenting videos about the different countries.
“The event will also provide entertainment,” Davis adds. “We have performers in dance, song, storytelling and instrumental music. There will also be, henna tattoo demonstrations and an international fashion show. We are excited to present the many facets of countries from around the world, and encourage the community to experience these other cultures along with us.”
