DCCC to Host 11th Annual International Night

Event will feature international foods, entertainment, traditional dress

THOMASVILLE, N.C. ... Davidson County Community College will bring the sights and sounds of more than 25 countries under one roof for its 11th annual International Night on March 31. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Brinkley Gymnasium on the Davidson Campus. The public is invited to attend.

International Night showcases the many ways students experience a global education at DCCC. It has also become a fun campus tradition engaging participants in a deeper exploration of cultures different from their own.

The event will feature tables representing each of the highlighted countries, food, activities and live entertainment. Attendees can expect to taste cuisine from a variety of countries, watch performances by Cambodian dancers and Tunisian singers, see displays of authentic artifacts and traditional dress and even hear a variety of languages spoken.

A family-friendly affair, the event will offer a special children's area. Kids also will be able to "visit" each country and earn stamps for their passport.

"International Night highlights all our international education initiatives," says Suzanne LaVenture, director of international education. "It's a chance for everyone – domestic students, ESL students, international students, faculty, staff and community members - to come together and celebrate the unique aspects of our cultures and the ties that bind us all together as human beings."

DCCC's International Education Committee, whose mission is to help prepare DCCC students to be successful as global citizens, sponsors International Night.

Advance tickets are $3 each for all ages and are available at the information desk located in the Brooks Student Center on the Davidson Campus or from DCCC Scholars of Global Distinction. At the door, tickets will be $5 for ages 12 and up, $3 for ages 6-11 and free for ages 5 and under. For more information, contact Margaret Annunziata, at 336-249-8186, ext. 6706.
