Faculty/Staff COVID-19 Update: March 27, 2020

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I want to thank each of you for the support you are providing our students and each other as we continue to work in our alternative operations model. We will continue to work under this model until we receive different guidance from local and state health officials.  Please continue to follow the guidance of our health officials, so that we can do our part to prevent the spread of this virus. Below are a few updates related to our ongoing operations.

Employee Work and State of Emergency Leave Policy- Extension

In an effort to lessen the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our employees, the DCCC Board of Trustees adopted the Employee Work and State of Emergency Leave Policy 3.2.19 on Friday, March 20, 2020. During the period of the State of Emergency declared by the Governor, the Board of Trustees delegated authority to the President to implement the provisions in the policy and to extend the period in which the policy is effective if necessary.  This policy, due to expire on March 31, 2020, has been extended through April 30, 2020.

This policy ensures ALL DCCC employees (full and part-time) have access to Paid State of Emergency Leave (now up to 168 hours) through April 30, 2020.  No balance will be carried over beyond April 30, 2020.

NOTE: The Families First Coronavirus Response Act was signed into law on March 18, 2020 and goes into effect on April 2, 2020. This new federal legislation is intended to help workers, businesses, and the healthcare sector by providing Emergency Family and Medical Leave and Emergency Paid Sick Leave.  The College is currently reviewing the new legislation and will issue some additional information before the new law goes into effect on April 2, 2020.

We will continue to do all that is possible to support our employees during this time.  Your patience and flexibility is most appreciated as we work through the emerging needs of our students, employees, and community.

Employee Assistance Program

We understand that times like these can be stressful. The College’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a resource program available to help employees through stressful situations and events. Our EAP is free, confidential, and designed to help with all kinds of life situations. Examples include, but are not limited to, marital difficulties, family problems, parenting, stress, balancing work and family, relationship issues, work-related concerns, depression, alcohol and drug use/abuse, grief and loss, elder care, healthy living, and crisis events. The College’s EAP is administered by Richard L. Martin, M.A. LPC.  Please feel free to contact Richard L. Martin, M.A. LPC, at 336.917.0022. After the initial free visit, the EAP counselor may recommend more intensive or specialized professional services that may involve some employee expense. Any costs incurred by utilizing those additional services can be filed with your health insurance or State Health Plan.
