Associate in Science Degree Program
What you can get
What it's about
The Associate in Science (A.S.) program is included in the agreement between North Carolina’s community colleges and its four-year colleges and universities as well as many independent four-year institutions. It is designed to provide students with an opportunity to take the first two years of a four-year program in many majors.
College transfer programs, such as the Associate in Science, are designed to assist your transition towards a Bachelor's degree, not necessarily into a job. Students who complete the AS, but do not transfer, may find work in a variety of settings.
Courses you'll take
The course work includes composition and literature, humanities, mathematics, natural and social sciences, computer and physical education. ACA 090, Student Success Strategies, is recommended if not required.
What you'll gain
If your plan is to transfer to a four-year college or university, you’ll get many of your prerequisites out of the way, while allowing you to develop self-discipline and study skills in a nurturing environment.
Upon successful completion of the Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or Associate in General Education, the student should be able to:
1. Communicate effectively.
2. Think critically.
3. Demonstrate information literacy.
4. Demonstrate interdependence.
