NC Community College Consortium Trips
DCCC students, especially those studying or interested in Business, are encouraged to participate in a trip to China tentatively scheduled for May/June 2014. We are currently accepting applications for the 2014 trip. Four partial scholarships of $750 are available. This short term study abroad tour is part of an arrangement with CCID (Community Colleges for International in conjunction with Shanghai Finance University and Beijing Union University. Students from two other U.S. community colleges will also participate on the tour: Valencia College (FL) and Central Piedmont Community College (NC).
The program will consist of both cultural activities and lectures by professors at our partner universities with emphasis on what is happening in China's business sector and economy. Students will take a 3 hour course, HUM 180 – International Cultural Exploration, as part of the experience.

Service Learning in Chimbote, Peru
DCCC is offering this study abroad opportunity through CCID (Community Colleges for International Development, Inc.) in cooperation with Los Amigos, a non-profit organization based in Chimbote, Peru www.losamigos-chimbote.org. On the program you will meet students from other partner community colleges. You will also have an opportunity to interact with local residents through the volunteer work in which you will be participating.
The Experience in a Nutshell
- Spend 11 days in Peru
- Earn three college credits (HUM 180 – International Cultural Exploration)
- Observe and analyze social, economic and other aspects of life in Chimbote
- Learn about local culture and customs through interactions with local residents
- Experience culture through volunteering at the local shelters, clinics, agencies
The Program and the Course
The group will spend most time in Chimbote, volunteering at local shelters, clinics and assistance agencies. There is a one day tour into an Inca cultural site outside of Chimbote. The group also spends time in the capital city of Peru, Lima. The program works predominantly with the poorest residents in Chimbote.
Estimated Program Fee: $1,700 - $1,800
The Program Fee includes: Round trip airfare to Peru, health insurance, accommodation at the Mission, meals (three daily), airport transportation and in-country transfers, cultural activities as noted, fees for scheduled cultural visits.
The Program Fee does not include: College tuition, passport, airport exit fees, medical deductible, pocket expenses/ incidentals, tips, and immunization fees (if applicable). Program fees are subject to change until program costs are finalized and the airline tickets are purchased.
