Transfer Credit Evaluations

Credits from other Colleges | AP | CLEP | Articulated Credits (Tech Prep) | Military Credits

Credits from other Colleges

  • Students must have offi cial transcript(s) sent directly to the College by the institution(s) which originally granted the credit or hand carry the transcript(s) in a college stationary sealed envelope. “Faxed” transcripts are not considered offi cial.
  • Transfer credit will not be given for work done at institutions that are not accredited by one of the six U.S. regional accrediting agencies, and transcripts from such institutions are not required.
  • The College will consider granting credit for courses in which are found to be equal in content to that of a DCCC course. Credit can be granted for courses in which a student made a grade of A, B, or C only.
  • Transfer credit is not awarded for credit by exam (CE)  granted by other institutions.
  • Transfer credit granted by DCCC will show on the student’s DCCC transcript, but will not compute in the student’s GPA.
  • Time limitations may restrict the acceptance of credits from both internal and external sources if it is determined that course material or content is outdated.

Advanced Placement (AP)

  • The College gives credit for courses in which College Entrance Examination Board Advanced Placement Examinations have been given and in which appropriate levels of competence have been demonstrated.
  • Students must request to have an official AP score report sent to DCCC from the College Board.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

  • The College Level Examination Program is a national testing program of the College Entrance Examination Board through which a person may obtain college credit in a particular subject area by demonstrating profi ciency on an examination.
  • DCCC does not administer these exams. The CLEP General and Subject exams are administered by area colleges and public libraries.
  • Students must request to have an official CLEP score report sent to DCCC from the College Board.

Articulated College Credit for Tech Prep Students

  • Students who successfully completed high school College Tech Prep courses may receive credit for Davidson County Community College courses that cover the same content or skills development as identifi ed by statewide or local articulation agreements.
  • Students must have received a grade of “B” or better in their high school course and achieved a score of 80 or better on the VOCATS test for that course.

Military Credits

  • Students who have completed Basic Training in the military are awarded four (4) semester hours of credit in physical education where applicable to their program of study. A copy of the student’s DD214 form must be submitted to the Director, Registration and Student Records, in order for credit to be awarded.
  • Students who have taken college-level studies while in military service may be eligible to receive credit for military course work and military occupational specialties (MOS) where such are applicable to the student’s program of study.
  • Students must request to have an official AARTS or SMART transcript sent to the DCCC Records Office for evaluation of credit based on ACE (American Council on Education) recommendations.
