Why is it important to officially drop courses?
- If you just stop attending class and do not complete the procedure for dropping courses, the instructor may assign a grade of “F” for the course.
- Your financial aid may be affected by a change in the credit hours for which you are registered.
Will I get a refund when I drop courses?
- If you drop before the first day of classes, you will receive a 100% tuition refund.
- If you drop between the first day of classes and the 10% date of the semester, you will receive a 75% refund.
- Tuition refunds are not given after the 10% date of the semester.
Will I get a grade for courses that I drop?
- If you drop a course before the 10% date of the semester, no grade is issued.
- If you drop a course between the 10% date and the 75% date of the semester, a “W” will be printed on your transcript indicating a withdrawal from the course. A “W” does not affect your GPA.
- Students may not drop a course after the 75% date of the semester. The instructor will assign a grade for the course after the 75% date. However, medical or emergency withdrawals, with proper documentation, may be approved by the Dean, Student Services and Enrollment Management.
Will I have to repay financial aid for courses that I drop?
- Yes, if you drop courses before the 60% point of the semester, financial aid repayment is required.
Procedure for Dropping a Class

Obtain a Schedule Adjustment Form from the Davidson Campus Records Office, 2nd floor of Brooks Student Center or the Davie Campus Lab Building Front Office. |

Obtain the instructor’s signature on the form. For online courses, an e-mail from the instructor is accepted in place of the signature. |

Return the form to the Records Office on the Davidson Campus or the Front Office on the Davie Campus. |
