DCCC Davie Campus to Offer Continuing Education Courses
Feb. 26, 2013 – The Davie Campus of Davidson County Community College is offering several Continuing Education courses. Come join Mindy Seamon in making priceless handmade books. During this 4 week class we will explore multiple types of book binding methods and make our own decorative papers. The books you will make can be used for journaling, scrapbooking, photo albums or sketchbooks to name a few.

Watercolor Batik Workshop
Watercolor Batik is an exciting and fun technique for using watercolor in an unusual way. Using rice paper, pen and ink, watercolor pigments and melted wax (as a resist) you will build up richly-colored layers of transparent paint to create complex and beautiful paintings. Cracking the wax layers near the end of the process reveals unpredictable and mysterious-looking results. Although the instructor will have pre-drawn designs feel free to bring your own. St. Patrick’s Weekend Wine Tour
March 16, Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This course will provide a complete touring experience of the wineries and vineyards in the Yadkin Valley and beyond, which is both fun and educational. The Yadkin Valley lies in the Piedmont and Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Instructor, John Byrd, is a long time corporate member of the American Wine Society currently serving on its Strategic Planning committee. Byrd will teach the “technique” of wine tasting. The course will discuss the history of North Carolina’s fast growing wine industry, and the attraction of North Carolina’s wines. Included in the tour is lunch and a chauffeured ride through wine country, along North Carolina’s scenic highways and back roads. Tours depart at 10 a.m. and return by 5 p.m. to the Hampton Inn Bermuda Run, Advance, 196 NC Hwy 801 N, Advance, NC 27006.
The tour includes stops at two wineries and two breweries, including Foothills Brewery, Westbend Brewery, Misty Creek Vineyard and Raylen Vineyard. Participants will receive a wine education, lunch and a souvenir glass. Participants must be 21 years old to sign up and must bring a valid driver’s license. Notary Public Education
This course meets state requirements for certification as a Notary Public. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. A convicted felon is not eligible to obtain a notary license in North Carolina.
