Frequently Asked Questions
Do you know what the average amount of increase in yearly salary is for a high school graduate versus a non-high school graduate?
In Davidson County, there is an average of 58% higher annual salary for someone who has a high school diploma than for someone who does not.
How much do ABE, GED, AHS, ESL or CED classes cost?
There is no cost for basic skills classes, and books are also provided to students free of charge.
How do I sign up to take the GED tests?
- Students must first enroll in a GED class or program of study
- Students must attend a class minimum of 12 hours
- Students must score at an appropriate level on the TABE test and an official GED practice test
Once students have finished the above items and are ready for the actual GED testing, the instructor will provide a referral sheet that is the student's ticket for scheduling the GED test dates.
When can I enroll in classes?
Students can enroll in any class session at off-campus sites and satellite centers, and on Monday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and Tuesday or Thursday evenings at 5:30 at the main campus site.
Can I just walk in and take the GED or college placement test?
For the GED test you cannot. Students must enroll in a class and meet the criteria mentioned above to be signed up for GED testing. For college placement tests, students may test without a review, but DCCC strongly recommends that students who have been out of school for a while review skills that might be rusty to help them to be better prepared for college classes.

"The Uptown Lexington Education Center is an asset to DCCC. I have passed my GED thanks to the help of the faculty and staff there. I can't say enough about the team of instructors. They were very helpful and encouraging through my whole experience. The Uptown Lexington Education Center is a convenient location and I recommend it to anyone wishing to finish their education. Hats off to the College for creating the Uptown Center!"

"Attending the adult education program at Davidson County Community College was one of the most rewarding things that I have done so far. I not only received the guidance that I needed, but it seemed to me that everyone involved in the process was more than willing to make sure that I was a success in the program. The program was fairly quick, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I wanted to feel the accomplishment of obtaining my diploma for too many years and have let the embarrassment of not doing what I should have done in the past stand in my way. I learned that it is not what you have done, but what you do now that defines who you are. Now that I have finished the program, I have decided to further my education even more. I am enrolled to start school in the fall of this year to begin a new journey in my life. Not only am I excited, but I am happy and proud of myself. Now the door is open for me to have a rewarding career doing something that I love, but it all had to start with the adult education department at DCCC." |
