Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to get your AHS diploma?
The time it takes to earn the AHS diploma depends on the dedication of the student, the time commitment to attending class, and the credits a students has when he/she enters.

What are the major differences between earning a GED certificate or an AHS diploma?
Individuals who enroll in the AHS program will be required to complete 24 instructional units equivalent to those required by public schools, pass the North Carolina Competency Test, and complete the College assessment. Individuals in the GED program take a series of tests called the General Educational Development. Those who pass these five tests with a score of 2,400 or higher demonstrate that they have attained the skills of the average high school graduate in the areas of reading, math, writing, social studies, and science, and will be awarded a GED diploma.

Will I be able to use my degree to go to college or get a job?
Yes. Both degrees are accepted by all state colleges and universities and most private colleges and universities. Most employers accept the AHS diploma or the GED as a recognized high school credential.
