Cross-Cultural Solutions and CCID
Harris Wofford Global Service Fellowship
The Harris Wofford Global Service Fellowship offers individuals the unique opportunity to participate in an international volunteer program. Selected CCS Global Service Fellows receive a full fellowship which covers 100% of the program fee. By partnering with Community Colleges through CCID, we hope to determine those students who have financial need, a commitment to service, and a demonstrated passion and commitment to international issues.
DCCC students should complete the application found online and submit it to Suzanne LaVenture by November 25, 2011. DCCC will forward nominations and completed application forms to CCID, who will review the application and conduct interviews with students via Skype. CCID will be responsible for selecting the approved Global Service Fellows. CCID or Cross-Cultural Solutions will notify selected Fellows of their acceptance. Once accepted, Fellows may contact a Program Enrollment Manager at Cross-Cultural Solutions to select a program. Programs may include Volunteer Abroad, Intern Abroad, or Insight Abroad, and may be for a duration of between 1 and 12 weeks in any of 12 countries.
Fellow Responsibilities
Harris Wofford Global Service Fellows will be charged with the responsibility of spreading the word about international voluntary service through:
- Participating in a minimum of three information sessions, events, conferences, or other forms of outreach to speak about their international experience.
- Contributing to the mission of the volunteer organization as a representative in their local area, which may include social media campaigns, additional presentations, or speaking with prospective volunteers.
- Contributing to the long-term growth of international voluntary service through hosting a signature campaign for the Service World petition, with a goal of 1,000 signatures each.
In addition to these responsibilities, Fellows will continue their journey to becoming engaged citizen diplomats through participating in a series of in-person meetings and conference calls with distinguished leaders in the field of service both before and after their international experience. While the program fee for an international volunteer program is waived, Fellows are responsible for the costs of the round-trip flight to their volunteer location, any visa or passport costs, and any personal or incidental costs of the program. The CCS program fee includes:
- Accommodations in a Home-Base
- Meals and snacks safe for travelers and filtered drinking water (provided at the Home-Base)
- Cultural & Learning Activities, such as guest speakers, city tours, and excursions
- Language Lessons
- Full in-country staff
