In June of 2010, a group of 27 students, alumni, faculty, and community members from DCCC embarked on a study tour of Eastern Europe. A large part of the group consisted of Early College students from the Davie Campus. The trip lasted 11 days and covered five countries: Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany.
Many in the group took a special section of Humanities 120 offered during the fall semester of 2009 which covered the history and culture of the places on the tour. Highlights included:
- city tours of Budapest, Krakow, Prague, Dresden, and Berlin
- a visit to the thermal spas in Budapest
- an evening cruise on the Danube
- a stroll on the Charles Bridge in Prague
- evenings spent on the city squares
- tours of several cathedrals
- A moving visit to Auschwitz / Birkenau
- A visit to the Checkpoint Charlie museum in Berlin
DCCC offers short term study abroad tours on a regular basis. We are currently in the planning process for the next tour. Contact Suzanne LaVenture at slaventure@davidsonccc.edu for more information.
