In late May of 2010, a group of five faculty and students from DCCC participated in a trip to China as part of our Troika arrangement with CCID (Community Colleges for International Development.) It was a 15 day trip, including one week in Shanghai in conjunction with Shanghai Finance University and one week in Beijing, working with Beijing Union University. Four other U.S. community colleges also participated: Tulsa Community College (OK), Valencia Community College (FL), Central Piedmont Community College (NC), and Hillsborough Community College (FL).
The program consisted of both cultural activities and lectures by professors at our partner universities with emphasis on what is happening in China's business sector and economy. Highlights included:
- Lectures from university professors on Chinese Culture
- Lectures from university professors on China's business and economy
- Meetings with local government officials, multinational business leaders, and Rotary
- Visiting the World Expo in Shanghai and local markets
- Visiting Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, The Great Wall, 2008 Olympic facilities, and rural areas in an around Beijing
DCCC is committed to participating in the China program through 2012. We are currently accepting applications for the May 2011 trip. Partial scholarships are available and space is limited. Contact Suzanne LaVenture at slaventure@davidsonccc.edu for more information.
