David Grice, Class of 1970
David Smith Grice taught criminal justice courses for 30 years at Davidson County Community College (DCCC), where he graduated from the Police Science Program in August 1970 with an Associate degree in Applied Science.
After graduating from DCCC, Grice transferred to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he earned his bachelor degree in Criminal Justice Administration and his Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
After serving four years with the Davidson County Sheriff's Department from 1971 to 1974 and attaining the highest rank of lieutenant with the department's Criminal Division, Grice began teaching criminal justice courses at DCCC as well as serving as a reserve officer for the Denton Police Department. Grice returned to the Sheriff's Department in June 2004 when he was appointed Sheriff after he reitred from DCCC. He also serves as a reserve police officer for the Town of Denton.
Grice is a lifelong resident of Davidson County. He has been married for 31 years to Sarah Swicegood Grice, and they have two children. Son, Chris Grice and his wife, Regan, reside in Charlotte with their one-year-old daughter, Roxy. Daughter, Lindsay Grice, is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she is following in her father's footsteps as she studies criminal justice.
A member of First Baptist Church in Denton, Grice enjoys spending time with his granddaughter, fly fishing, and working on his farm.
