Education Investment Options

There are a variety of ways that you can invest in education. Davidson County Community College Foundation, Inc. welcomes all gift types and will work with you and your financial advisors to maximize the tax value of your gifts. Donors may make a one-time gift or may fulfill their pledge on a monthly, quarterly, annual, or multi-year basis.

Cash:
Cash gifts are deductible from adjusted gross income. Gifts may be made in honor or in memory of friends and loved ones.

Bequests:
You can reduce inheritance taxes by designating in your will specific gifts of cash, property, or a percentage of the remainder of your estate.

Search, Shop and Share:
You can make an investment by doing something that you already do: 1) Search the Internet using GoodSearch.com as your search engine, 2) Register your MVP card at Foodlion.com, and 3) Do your online purchasing through the shopping mall located at www.njcaa.org. A percentage of proceeds from these activities will support students, programs, and services at DCCC.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities:
Gifts of appreciated securities such as stocks (including mutual fund shares) and bonds held long term may be fully tax deductible, including the difference between what you paid for the security and the fair market value when donated. Your broker may electronically transfer securities to the DCCC Foundation broker or unsigned stock certificates can be sent by certified mail to the DCCC Foundation Office.

Real Estate:
The same tax advantages that apply to stocks and bonds also apply to most real estate. Donations such as acreage, a farm, lot, house, commercial building, or any other kind of real estate held long-term may qualify as a charitable deduction for as much as the full market value.

Life Insurance:
Designation the DCCC Foundation as an owner and beneficiary of a paid-up policy or a new policy helps the Foundation’s future endowment and provides you with a tax deduction.

Retained Life Estate:
You may donate your primary or vacation residence or farm and still retain lifetime use of the property. You will receive an immediate charitable deduction for the gift based on your age. The property is removed from your estate for tax purposes. The donor is responsible for taxes, insurance, and maintenance. Upon your death or the death of the surviving spouse, the gift becomes the property of the DCCC Foundation.

Retirement Plan:
The DCCC Foundation can be named as beneficiary of all or a portion of a retirement plan, such as an IRA or Keogh Plan. This is another means of ensuring the work of the Foundation continues in our community. Upon your death, the gift will come to the DCCC Foundation without probate.

Living Trust:
Designation of the DCCC Foundation as a co-owner with the right of survivorship of any savings account allows the gift to become the property of the Foundation without probate upon the death of the donor.

Charitable Gift Annuity:
A donor may transfer assets to the DCCC Foundation in return for fixed annuity payments for life.

Matching Gifts:
Often your gift to the DCCC Foundation can be multiplied by matching funds from companies and foundations. Please check your company’s policy on matching gifts.

Gifts from Community Foundations and Charitable Gift Funds:
Individuals may designate their gifts to the DCCC Foundation, Inc. through community foundations and/or charitable gift funds by contacting the community foundation director or a representative of any charitable gift fund.

In Kind Gifts and Services:
Individuals and organizations in the community may contribute nonfinancial resources which benefit programs and services.

Volunteer:
Individuals may donate their time for a variety of activities which benefit students and College programs and services. For example, volunteers are needed to support students through tutoring, serve on program advisory boards, or assist with fundraising activities.
