Satisfactory Academic Progress
Standards for Federal Financial
Aid Recipients

  • Federal Financial Aid at DCCC includes Pell Grant, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), and College Work-Study.

  • To continue to receive federal aid, the law states that a student must be making satisfactory progress toward completion of a diploma, degree or eligible certificate.

  • Students must maintain a satisfactory grade point average. A minimum 2.00 GPA is preferred. However, the specific grade point average you must maintain is determined by both your program of study and the total number of hours that you have attempted. For more explanation of these policies, please read the Scholastic Standards section of this year’s General Catalog/Student Handbook.

  • The minimum progress that is acceptable is completion of 67% (two-thirds) of the hours in which they enroll during an academic term.

  • A student may receive aid for up to 150% of the length of time required for his or her original program of study. This is determined by multiplying the published number of semester hours needed to complete the program by 150% and comparing that to the number of hours you have attempted.

  • The first term a student fails to meet one or more of these requirements he or she will be placed on Financial Aid Probation. A student on financial aid probation must participate in the College’s Student Success Program in order to continue federal financial aid eligibility. Students must complete a financial aid probation contract and fulfill all of the terms of the contract. While on probation the student may still receive federal financial aid for the probationary term, but must improve their progress and/or GPA to an acceptable level at the end of the term.

  • The second or subsequent term a student is not making Satisfactory Academic Progress or earns an unacceptable GPA Federal Financial Aid will be terminated and no further federal aid will be provided to you. The cost of attendance will be the responsibility of the student. Students whose federal financial aid has been terminated due to failure to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress may submit a written appeal to the Director of Financial Aid. Appeals that have been denied may be subsequently appealed to the Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management, whose decision is final.

  • Students with questions about their satisfactory academic progress should contact the Financial Aid Office on the second floor of the Mendenhall Building Room 208 on the main DCCC campus in Lexington.
