The UNC JV men’s basketball team pulled out a tight victory, defeating Davidson County Community College 81-69 on Sunday afternoon.
The Tar Heels jumped out to an early lead and held a slim lead for most of the first half. UNC was unable to pull away at the start of the second half, and DCCC was able to keep the lead in single digits.
With ten minutes left, DCCC took the lead following a Justin Glover layup. It held the lead for five minutes until Steven Samuels got a rebound off a missed free throw and made a layup to give the UNC the lead. Samuels and Patrick McPhail, who made two three pointers and a layup in the final minutes, controlled the end of the game to help the Tar Heels seal the victory.
Samuels, McPhail, D.J. Johnston, Patrick Crouch and Ford Tanner all had double-digits points to help UNC overcome a sloppy effort. Justin Glover led DCCC in scoring in the losing effort.
