DELHI, N.Y. | Davidson County Community College had its chances Thursday night.
It just didn't finish them.
DCCC's 21-game winning streak ended in heartbreaking fashion, as the Storm fell 81-78 to Roxbury Community College (Mass.) in the opening round of the NJCAA Division III men's basketball tournament at Clark Field House at SUNY Delhi.
“They are very athletic and they had a lot to do with this outcome,” DCCC coach Matt Ridge said. “We missed a lot of layups. … Normally, we convert those. If we convert those like normal, we probably win by double digits.”
The Storm (29-5) play the loser of Thursday night's game between Herkimer County Community College (N.Y.) and Joliet Junior College (Ill.) in the consolation bracket at 3 p.m. Friday.
The highest the Storm can finish is fourth.
“We just have to keep our heads up,” said Roderick Geter, who finished with a team-high 21 points. “It's about pride now.”
Phillip Williams contributed 19 points and Justin Glover finished with 17 for the Storm, who received 12 rebounds from Kimani Hunt.
