Storm face biggest game ever

The biggest basketball in Davidson County Community College’s history takes place Saturday at Brinkley Gym.

It may also be the Storm’s most difficult.

DCCC takes on Montgomery College-Germantown (Md.) for the NJCAA District VII championship. The winner advances to next week’s Division III national tournament in Delhi, N.Y.

“We’re certainly excited,” said DCCC coach Matt Ridge. “It’s going to be a big-time challenge. They are extremely athletic.”

Game time is 3 p.m. on Saturday.

DCCC (28-4) has won 20 consecutive games, including last Saturday’s 113-63 rout of Southwest Virginia in the Region X championship game.

This one promises to be a lot tougher.

MCG, the Region XX champion, brings a 21-8 record. The Gryphons have a 6-foot-8 center in Jonathan Taylor and quick guards that could present matchup problems.

“I think they’re more athletic than we are,” Ridge said. “All five of their starters are similar to Justin Glover and Phillip Williams in athleticism. Extremely quick. Extremely explosive.”
