When can I transfer?
You can transfer whenever a school accepts you, but we recommend that you complete the 64 credit hour associate degree or the 44-hour General Education Core Diploma before transferring (see Step 3).
What is the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA)?
The CAA is a statewide agreement between North Carolina community colleges and North Carolina public universities to allow a smooth transfer for students. The agreement identifies community college courses that are appropriate for transfer. These courses are marked with a CAA in the back of the DCCC catalog under course descriptions. Click here for more information.
Is admission to a UNC institution guaranteed?
The CAA assures admission under the Transfer Assured Admission Policy (TAAP) to one of the 17 UNC institutions with the following stipulations:
- Admission is not assured to a specific campus or specific program or major
- Students must have graduated from a North Carolina Community College with an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree
- Students must meet all requirements of the CAA
- Students must have an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, as calculated by the college from which they graduated, and a grade of “C” or better in all CAA courses
- Students must be academically eligible for re-admission to the last institution attended
- Students must meet judicial requirements of the institution to which they apply
- Students must meet all application requirements at the receiving institution including the submission of all required documentation by stated deadlines
How many credit hours can I transfer?
A maximum of 64 hours will transfer, but there are some exceptions to that rule. Talk to an admissions representative from the institution to which you will transfer.
What happens if I make a D or F in a course?
- Retake the course. The grades of D or F will not be given transfer credit, but you can still graduate from DCCC with a D and a 2.0 grade point average (GPA).
- If you retake a course, the second grade will be used to calculate the GPA when you graduate.
- If you transfer before you graduate, the D or F will be calculated in your GPA.
- The lower grade will always remain on your transcript.
