How do I select a College or University?
- Select your college/university based on your major. Some majors are offered at every college/university, but other majors are offered only at selected colleges/universities.
- Gather information on colleges/universities that offer your intended major.
- Click here to visit our College/University Visits page to find out when four-year college representatives will be visiting DCCC.
- Make an appointment to meet with an admissions counselor or advisor at all of the institutions you are interested in to discuss your transfer plans and compare transfer requirements. If you visit with an admissions counselor or advisor, follow up with a thank-you note.
- Take campus tours.
- Determine what financial aid options you have at different transfer institutions.
What if I wish to attend a private school?
- Decide what the advantages and disadvantages of attending a private versus a state supported college are (examples might be cost, social environment, academics, location, etc.).
- Don’t let higher costs keep you from investigating private schools. A higher cost usually means there is more financial aid available.
- You must make sure you are taking courses that follow the program of study for your declared major. Private schools don’t necessarily endorse the CAA.
Private schools that endorse the CAA: Barton, Belmont Abbey, Bennett, Brevard, Campbell, Catawba, Chowan, Gardner-Webb, Johnson C. Smith, Lees-McRae, Livingstone, Louisburg, Mars Hill, Montreat, Mount Olive, NC Wesleyan, Pfeiffer, Queens, St. Andrews Presbyterian, Saint Augustine’s, Salem, Shaw, Warren Wilson, and Wingate
Should I consider more than one school?
Yes. Rank your choices by first, second, or third choice.
