After completing the Free Application For Federal Student Aid and submitting all requested verification documents to the financial aid office, students may apply for a federal Stafford Loan. Parents may apply for a Stafford Plus loan. Students must be enrolled in 6 credit hours each semester to qualify for a federal loan.
DCCC students may also apply for alternative or private loans. Private loans are not need-based, and they are issued with interest rates that are higher than the federal loan rates. Repayments on private loans usually begins before the student graduates. Students may apply on the websites of the private lenders. Below you will find the contact information for many private lenders.
DCCC students may apply for federal loans on the website www.opennet.salliemae.com.
The lenders provided through this link have been thoroughly reviewed by the Financial Aid staff and are considered a resource for students. They were selected based on reviews of customer service, prior history as a lender with the college, and the repayment options available to students and parents.
NOTE: STUDENTS HAVE THE OPTION TO SELECT A LENDER OF THEIR CHOICE. Below you will find the names, contact numbers and web addresses for lenders who provide Stafford Loans.
There are six required steps in the loan application process:
1. Complete the FAFSA application
2. Complete an Entrance Counseling Session
3. Complete an Application and Master Promissory Note
4. Complete an Entrance Interview with a DCCC counselor
5. Loan Certification by a DCCC counselor
6. Completion of an Exit Counseling session, required for students who
graduate, drop below 6 credit hours or withdraw from school.
Steps one through four must be complete before a loan can be certified by a
counselor. If you choose to apply for a loan through a lender that does not
require you to complete an entrance counseling session, you may complete this requirement on the mapping your future website (link below). Students can call 249-8186 extension 6277 to schedule an appointment for an entrance interview after
completing the first four steps of the loan application process. The exit counseling session may be completed by visiting www.mapping-your-future.org.
