Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice to become a law enforcement officer?
No, but it certainly would enhance your opportunities to enter the law enforcement profession. DCCC offers the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) course, which is currently required of all students who wish to enter law enforcement careers. Many law enforcement agencies now require an Associate degree to advance within the agency, and it is predicted that agencies in the near future will require an Associate degree for entry-level positions. Plus, to enter the BLET course, students must be at least 20 years old. Younger students are encouraged to earn their Associate degree, and then enroll in BLET when they reach age 20. |
