Special Admission Requirements

Applicants for admission to the Medical Laboratory Technology program must have:
  • Graduated from an accredited high school or have an Adult High School Diploma or have passed the GED with an equivalency certificate which meets the minimum requirements set by the State of North Carolina.
  • Acceptable scores on the College’s placement assessment
  • Physical health compatible with the ability to obtain clinical experience in a health care agency
  • A criminal background check and/or drug testing is required prior to participation in the clinical component

What does a medical laboratory technician do?
Medical laboratory technicians generally work under the supervision of medical technologists and perform routine clinical laboratory tests on blood, tissue, and body fluids. Their responsibilities include collecting blood samples, preparing chemical solutions, preparing and analyzing specimens, enforcing quality control measures, maintaining equipment, keeping records of tests completed and reporting results to the appropriate heath professionals or agencies.
