Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to do to be a licensed massage therapist in NC?
According to the NC State Board of Massage, you must complete a massage training program of at least 500 hours (DCCC’s program is 880 hours), pass the MBLEX (a licensure exam), pass criminal history check conducted by the NC Board of Massage, and apply to the state board for your license.
When does the program start?
We are a fall start only. We begin new classes every August for the fall semester. You can take supporting courses while you wait for the new program to start.
Are the classes offered at night?
No. The massage classes are daytime only. Several of the supporting courses are offered at night and online.
How many hours will I be in class?
In the fall we are in class (for the massage classes only, not including any supporting courses) for 18 hours each week. In the spring we are in class for 20 hours each week.
Do I need to buy a massage table before class starts?
No. When you register for MTH 110 there will be a table fee put on your bill. This includes your massage table and some supplies. You will need to plan on buying some extra sets of sheets and whatever type of lubricant you wish to use.
How long does it take to complete the program?
If you are able to follow the courses in the order we have them set up and you have completed all preparatory courses, you will begin the diploma program in the fall semester and be finished in the summer semester. If you have already taken some supporting courses, you will be finished in the spring semester. (Please see advisement sheet for the course breakdown)
