Davidson County Community College's Practical Nurse (Diploma) Education program provides quality learning opportunities to prepare individuals for successful employment as Licensed Practical Nurses.

Special Admission Requirements
Applicants for admission to the nursing program must have:
- Graduated from an accredited high school or have an Adult High School Diploma or have passed the GED with an equivalency certificate which meets the minimum requirements set by the State of North Carolina.
- Acceptable scores on the College’s placement assessment
- Physical health compatible with the ability to obtain clinical experience in a health care agency
- A criminal background check and/or drug testing may be required by the clinical site prior to participation in the clinical component DCCC uses a selective admissions process to admit students into the nursing program. Students are ranked based upon points they accumulate. The student receives points:
- if he/she lives in Davidson or Davie county
- for the grade earned in BIO 163 or 165 or 166 (only if taken at DCCC)
- for the score on a required entrance test

The Practical Nurse Education program is offered as a hybrid course. Course content is offered online with labs two nights a week on the Davie campus. Clinical rotations will occur on the weekends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) still in demand, I thought they were being phased out?
LPNs continue to be in high demand, although the hospital setting is moving away from hiring LPNs, there are many health care facilities in need of the diploma-trained nurse.
Where can an LPN work after graduation?
Nursing Homes, Doctor's Office; Home Health Care Agency; Private Duty; Clinics.
How long is the Practical Nursing program and do I have to take a licensure exam after graduation? The program is three semesters long (approximately one year) beginning in the spring semester and ending in the fall semester. Graduates must take and pass the national licensing exam to use the LPN title.
Where are the classes and clinicals held for this program? This is an online/hybrid program with evening labs meeting at the Davie Campus in Mocksville, NC. All clinicals will be tentatively conducted in Davie, Davidson, Rowan and Forsyth counties.
Is it more expensive to take an online nursing program than a traditional one? No. The tuition is the same for online and traditional programs at DCCC.
Do I have to have a computer and know how to use it? All class material will be presented via the Internet, so you must have access to a computer. You will need to be able to navigate the Internet, save files, create word documents, and send emails with attachments in order to be successful in this program.
The DCCC Practical Nursing Program is currently the only online practical nursing in the state of North Carolina at this time.
