Mission Statement
The Pharmacy Technology program provides quality learning opportunities to prepare individuals for successful employment as a pharmacy technician.

Special Admission Requirements
Applicants for admission to the Pharmacy Technology program must have:
- Completed and submitted an Application for Admission.
- Graduated from an accredited high school or have an Adult High School Diploma or have passed the GED with an equivalency certificate that meets the minimum requirements set by the State of North Carolina.
- Completed the College's assessment process and achieved acceptable scores or have been exempted.
- Completed a year of high school Algebra or have completed MAT 070 at DCCC or have completed a college-level Algebra course.
- Signed and submitted the Statement of Understanding Concerning Acceptance for Clinical Training.
- A criminal background check and/or drug testing may be required by the clinical site prior to participation in the clinical component

What is the job outlook for pharmacy technicians?
Demand for pharmacy technicians will rise 26% by 2010. Because of expansion of retail pharmacies and other employment settings, good job opportunities are expected for full-time and part-time pharmacy technicians with formal training.
Are the courses and hours flexible?
We offer both traditional, face-to-face courses and on-line courses.
How long will it take me to complete the diploma?
If you complete the program as a full-time student it will take you nine months (two semesters). You may choose to go part-time which would require a longer time.
Can I work and take these courses?
Yes, in fact, many of our students are able to get jobs at pharmacies as students.
Interesting Fact
During the summer of 2005, program instructor Jana Andrews was asked to go to Thailand in order to help that government set up pharmacy technician programs in their community colleges. During her two visits there that summer, she worked with Thai educators to develop their pharmacy technology curriculum. Visitors from Thailand visited the DCCC Pharmacy Technology program during the fall of 2005. |
