Frequently Asked Questions
I work full-time. How can I get my associate degree in nursing?
The class work is entirely online except for the first 3 days of the first semester. The courses are designed for the working LPN.
I don’t live in Davidson County, It’s too far for me to come there for clinicals.
You can do your clinical hours at a health care facility where you live. You are responsible for finding a facility that will provide a preceptor for your clinical hours. You may be able to do some hours in the facility where you are employed, however, you cannot do them on the same unit on which you usually work. At least one semester must be in an acute care facility.
What are the required general education courses and where can I take them?
The following general education courses must be completed before you can begin the nursing courses.
BIO 165 and 166
ENG 111 and 114
PSY 150 and 241
COM 120
MAT 140
Humanities elective
These courses can be taken at DCCC or your local community college and transferred to DCCC. You must have earned a grade of C or better in order to receive credit for the course.
NOTE: LPNs who have wanted to become Registered Nurses have found this to be a very viable option in continuing their education.
