The Associate Degree Nursing program provides quality learning opportunities to prepare individuals for successful employment as nurses.

Special Admission Requirements
Applicants for admission to the nursing program must have:
- Graduated from an accredited high school or have an Adult High School Diploma or have passed the GED with an equivalency certificate which meets the minimum requirements set by the State of North Carolina.
- Acceptable scores on the College’s placement assessment
- Physical health compatible with the ability to obtain clinical experience in a health care agency
- A criminal background check and/or drug testing may be required by the clinical site prior to participation in the clinical component DCCC uses a selective admissions process to admit students into the nursing program. Students are ranked based upon points they accumulate. The student receives points:
- if he/she lives in Davidson or Davie county
- for the grade earned in BIO 165 or 166 (only if taken at DCCC)
- for the score on a required entrance test

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the waiting list to get in?
DCCC does not maintain a waiting list. Each applicant must apply each year. A selection process is used to select those students with the best chances of being successful and completing the program.
Do you count experience in healthcare or as an NA I in the ranking?
No, it is impossible to try to award points fairly for diverse employment experiences.
Do I have to have all of the general education courses completed before I can apply?
No. You must meet college admission criteria in order to apply, however, it is to your advantage to have completed BIO 165 at DCCC before applying because you will earn points toward your ranking. Students who do well on the required entrance test can earn enough points that they can be admitted without the points from BIO 165 or 166.
Do I have to be an NA I in order to apply?
No, you must have completed an NA I course that has a minimum of 70 hours of training which includes 40 hours of clinical instruction and be listed as an NA I on the state registry before you can begin nursing classes in the fall. You do not have to be an NA I in order to apply. If you are not currently listed as an NA 1, you may complete the training prior to enrollment in the nursing program. Documentation of satisfactory completion is required prior to enrolling in the first nursing course.

Annual Event
The annual pinning ceremony is a meaningful event for students and faculty. This provides the students with an opportunity to express their appreciation to family and friends who supported them through the journey. Receiving the DCCC ADN pin marks the completion of all requirements necessary before taking the licensing exam. |
