Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a medical assistant and a certified medical assistant (CMA)?
A person who has completed the educational requirements to be eligible to take the certification exam and has passed that examination can use the title Certified Medical Assistant. Unless the certification exam has been passed an individual cannot use the title Certified Medical Assistant.
What does a CMA do?
CMAs have the clinical skills to make initial patient assessments, such as taking blood pressure and blood samples, perform routine laboratory tests such as EKGs, and assist physicians with minor office procedures. They also have the knowledge and clerical skills necessary to perform administrative tasks necessary for smooth business functioning. Depending upon the field they work in, CMAs may have additional responsibilities such as taking x-rays, assist with surgeries, and test eye and eye muscle function.
How long is the program?
It takes three semesters full-time to complete the diploma. A student is eligible to take the certification exam after they have earned the diploma. To complete an Associate Degree will take an additional two semesters.
Annual Event
The students look forward to the annual pinning ceremony. This is a time of celebration with family and friends to recognize the accomplishment of completing the Associate Degree. |
