Curriculum Description
The Manufacturing Technology curriculum provides an introduction to the principles and practices of manufacturing in today’s global marketplace. The student will be exposed to valuable high-tech concepts applicable in a variety of industries such as plastics, metals, furniture, textiles, and electronics. Students will gain hands-on experience in manufacturing management practices, manufacturing materials and processes, research and development, and quality assurance.
The Machining Technology emphasis under the Manufacturing Technology curriculum was designed to develop skills in the theory and safe use of hand tools, power machinery, computerized equipment, and sophisticated precision inspection instruments. Students will learn to interpret blueprints, set up manual and CNC machines, perform basic and advanced machining operations, and make decisions to ensure that work quality is maintained.
Graduates should qualify for employment as machining technicians in high-tech manufacturing, rapid-prototyping and rapid-manufacturing industries, specialty machine shops, fabrication industries, and high-tech or emerging industries such as aerospace, aviation, medical, and renewable energy, and to sit for machining certification examinations.
