Human Resources Management Graduate

I am Alysia Peddle, and I enrolled at DCCC Fall 2000 after completing high school. I remember the day that I went to sign up for my first semester classes. It was very confusing because I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to major in; too many things appealed to me. I decided on Business Administration because I felt that would give me plenty of choices and opportunities to pursue after college. I learned a lot in all of my classes, but there was one particular class that I really enjoyed and it was my elective – a recruitment class in Human Resources. With two semesters left until graduation, I started talking to my instructor Gerry Grotberg about what I would need to do to also graduate with a degree in HR. I knew that I would be adding on a few more courses, but I didn’t mind because I really loved the program. Gerry also started talking to our class about furthering our education and, during my last semester at DCCC, I started attending night classes at Gardner Webb University and obtained my Bachelors degree in Business/Human Resources.

I am now living in Charleston, SC and working in Human Resources as a Nurse Recruiter for Trident Medical Center. It is a great feeling to wake up every morning and to know that I am getting to do what I love – meeting new people, learning their talents, and helping them find a place in our organization. It’s similar to what DCCC did for me. The faculty not only teach the subject, but they care about developing a relationship with their students and helping them find where they fit in the working world. The teachers and their advice helped me establish some direction, and I discovered what I am passionate about. While I was there, I developed a level of self-assurance that has enabled me to be the best I can be. Davidson County Community College has provided me with the proper foundation to have a successful life and career.
