Frequently Asked Questions
What types of skills are needed for the various business majors-accounting, business administration, human resources management, and operations management?
Each of these majors requires reasonably good mathematical skills, good communication skills (both written and oral communication), and good people skills. However, some of these are particularly important for some of the majors, as indicated below.

• Accounting: Students majoring in accounting should have good   mathematical and problem-solving skills, and they should enjoy work   that requires attention to detail and accuracy.
• Business Administration: Business administration majors should have   an interest in the various areas of business (marketing, management,   accounting, finance, human resources, etc.), and they should have   good mathematical and problem-solving skills and an interest in   working with people.
• Human Resources: Students majoring in human resources   management should have strong people skills and communication   skills. Although not quite as important as in some of the other fields, a   reasonable level of mathematical ability is needed.
• Operations Management: Students majoring in operations   management should have strong problem-solving and quantitative   (mathematical) skills. In addition, good communication and people   skills are important to success in this field.

How does the on-line degree work?
The online Business Administration AAS program is designed for students to complete in three years. Students may complete sooner by taking courses during the day or evening. Most of the program is completely on-line however students may need to visit campus to complete labs, mid-terms, and final exams. Students may also test at an approved testing center such as another community college, college, or public library. Students may need to purchase software programs to complete the course work. Some software programs may be provided by the instructor.

What electives are recommended in the business administration program?
The business administration curriculum is designed to provide an overall understanding of how businesses operate. This type of general business education is useful to people throughout their careers, but it is not primarily focused on skills needed for entry-level jobs. For this reason, business administration majors are encouraged to choose electives that will be most valuable to them, based on their employment situation, their strengths and interests, and the current job environment. Four specific alternatives are suggested, each providing an emphasis in one of the following areas: computer applications, accounting practices, human resources management, and hospitality management. The specific courses for these emphases are indicated in the General Catalog/Student Handbook.

What kind of jobs are available with a business administration degree?
This degree prepares you for a broad range of job opportunities in the workplace. For example, entry level positions in sales, marketing, and administration. Also, it is good preparation for a four-year degree.
