Accounting Graduate

Dollie Corner enrolled at DCCC after graduating from high school and received her AAS degree in Accounting in 1988. Upon graduation, she started working as a staff accountant in the Finance Department at the City of Lexington. After several years of work experience, Dollie decided to continue her education, which led to additional career opportunities with the city and eventually other companies.

Her additional education includes a BS in Accounting (2001) and a MBA in Accounting from High Point University (May 2004). Interestingly to note, she was expecting her first child when she graduated from DCCC and her second child when she graduated with her MBA from High Point University! Dollie mentioned that the transfer process from DCCC to High Point University was “easy” when she decided to continue her education. She has worked as a senior accountant with Truth Hardware, an accounts payable manager with promotion to an accounting manager with Walker and Associates, and is currently the controller for Whitewood Industries, Inc., having been promoted from an accounting manager position.

In sharing insights to her education and career path, Dollie noted that “some people may say that accounting and numbers are boring, but to me they tell a story. Once they are recorded and verified, they explain what happened. Sometimes there is gold at the end, and sometimes you see numbers in the red. The numbers also project a plan and where you want to go. The challenge is figuring out what happened and why the numbers say what they say. I began my accounting knowledge at DCCC. DCCC's faculty taught me all the basics that I needed. I decided 10 years later to continue my education, and with my degree from DCCC, I easily transferred and completed the requirements for my BS. I didn’t stop there and got my MBA. My next goal is CMA certification. DCCC started it all for me and I am very happy with what I have accomplished.”
