The current faculty in the School of the Arts, Sciences, and Education are part of a 40+ year tradition in the fine and performing arts. In the fall of 2006, studio classes were offered at the Thomasville Education Center’s studio which was carved from a renovated fire station.
Community partners made the DCCC satellite center and the studio possible. Partners include Allied Contract Group Services, Bank of North Carolina, Carrier Transport, City of Thomasville, Davidson Vision, DCCC, Hill’s Farm and Garden Center, K-Mart, North State Communications, Professional Commercial Floor Covering, T. Austin Finch Foundation, Thomasville Furniture Industries, and Wal-Mart.
Since the summer of 2010, a summer show of students’ work has been shown in the Mendenhall building where the professional shows are housed in fall and spring terms. We invite you to see this summer show!
Below are some initiatives the faculty and staff have set for the 2011-2012 academic year:
- Sponsor a DCCC student art show for the summer enrollment period.
- Sponsor the publication of the DCCC literary magazine jointly with the School of Foundational Studies
- Identify music student to receive the Gerald R. Carter Musicianship Award.
- Identify a music student to receive the Grady E. Love Conductor’s Award.
- Explore curriculum revisions for the AFA in music
- Explore curriculum additions to the AFA in art
- Continue to encourage students who are interested in the arts to pursue the AGE degree with as many art or music electives as possible
