Mission Statement
The Early Childhood Associate program provides quality educational opportunities that combine theoretical and hands-on learning experiences to prepare students for entry-level employment, career advancement, and/or advanced education in child development and education settings. Graduates are prepared to implement developmentally appropriate programs in early childhood settings including child care and education, preschools, public schools, Head Start program, and school-age programs.
Also, the program has partnered with public and private four year colleges and universities to facilitate students’ transferring and pursuing baccalaureate completion.

What can I do with an Early Childhood degree?
An Associate degree in Early Childhood prepares students to work in a variety of settings. While many students who are currently enrolled in the program work in child care settings, a large number of students also are working in public schools as teacher assistants. Still others are pursuing their associate degrees with the intention of transferring to a university to complete a Bachelor’s degree and earn a NC teaching license.
I am working full-time. Can I still enroll in the program?
The majority of students enrolled in the program currently work full or part-time in addition to attending school. In fact, for students working in an early childhood setting, they are often able to implement course concepts into their daily work experiences. However, students who are working full- or part-time must also be reasonable in the number of classes that they take each semester, and may need to allow themselves extra time to complete the degree.
Is the Early Childhood degree offered online?
Some courses in the degree are offered online periodically. However, due to the importance of developing skills in the early childhood classroom, many courses require on-campus classes, face-to-face activities, and on-site observations in early childhood settings. Increasingly, however, the faculty have developed hybrid delivery that allows students more flexibility in their schedules while still assuring the highest possible quality of instruction so that graduates are ready to develop young minds for academic success.
