Local community college leaders don't want home schooled high school students to be left out of college's offerings.

Lexington, NC -- Parents choosing to home school their children are finding the educational path is not a solo venture.

In Davidson and Davie counties, more than 1,100 families teach at home.

One place home educators are finding support is at their local community college.

Erica Dellinger found classes that her mother wasn't able to teach her at the community college.

And she received college credit for taking them.

Davidson County Community College Dean of Student Services, Kim Sepich says their dual enrollment program is growing in popularity with home schooled high school students.

"We've got several students who have entered leadership positions with student organizations within the college. We have several students finishing up their coursework and looking to transfer, and we're just very proud to be able to offer this opportunity and we hope that we can grow the program as the years go by."

You can learn more about Davidson County Community College's dual enrollment program for home schoolers this Friday.

It'll be in the Brooks Student Center.

It is free, open to the public, and will benefit families of home-schooled middle and high school students.
