Dr. Kandi Deitemeyer has been appointed as Vice President of Academic Program and Services at Davidson County Community College.
“Our students, staff, faculty and community are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Deitemeyer in a leadership position on our exceptional team here at the College,” said Dr. Mary Rittling, DCCC President. “She comes with impressive experience, exceptional talent, high energy, and strong, positive endorsements from those who worked with her at other colleges,” said Rittling.
As vice president, Deitemeyer provides a wide range of senior leadership and guidance in academic and program services. The vice president’s position was created due to the recent retirements of Bette Newsome and Dr. Ed Morse, former DCCC deans who retired after more than 25 years of service. Their duties were combined to form the position that Deitemeyer filled after a national search.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to be joining Davidson County Community College,” Dr. Deitemeyer said. “This is an exciting time of growth for both campuses that will result in expanded services for our citizens and businesses. I am thoroughly enjoying getting to know the college and the communities it serves both in Davidson and Davie counties,” she commented.
“It is very apparent that the members of the faculty and staff are committed to the future of each student who turns to DCCC for higher education,” Deitemeyer said. “The enthusiasm and commitment of the faculty and staff played a major role in my decision to join them. As vice president, I hope to provide a supportive leadership role as we move the college toward state and national recognition as a leader among comprehensive community colleges.”
Deitemeyer most recently served as College Provost of Gateway Community and Technical College in Kentucky where she was second-in-command of the multi-campus, two-year college. Prior to working in Kentucky, Deitemeyer was Vice President for Student Services at Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, N.C., where she was responsible for enrollment management, student support systems, strategic planning and budget management.
She earned an Ed.D. in higher education administration, a Master of Arts degree in counselor education, and a bachelor of arts degree in mass communications, all from the University of South Florida.
Her past positions include Director of Education Programs and Director of Academic Programs for the University of South Florida at Lakeland; Academic Advisor and Coordinator of Academic Advising and Assistant Director of Student Services at Polk Community College in Florida; and admissions representative at Tampa College in Lakeland, Florida.
Active in many professional associations, Deitemeyer served as a regional director of the Association of Women in Community Colleges, a member of the National Association of Student Development Administrators and as secretary of the board of directors of the North Carolina Community College Student Development Administrators Association.
Deitemeyer, who is originally from Florida, resides with her husband, Gary, and their daughter, Zoe Grace, in Lexington.
