Lexington, NC -- Some of the students graduating this month from area colleges took a different path getting there.

One such student is set to finish up at Davidson County Community College next week.

Mike Lambourne will take home more than just a degree at graduation.

He'll also get a three-wheeled motorcycle.

Lambourne became paralyzed after a car crash nearly 13 years ago.

This year he became one of 22 students in the college's inaugural Motorcycle Mechanics program.

He was also the only student in his class without a motorbike.

So his fellow classmates decided to build him one as their project.

"I was blown away. I just came here to learn how to work on motorcycles and next thing I know the class spoke up and decided they wanted to build me a trike."

Lambourne's trike will have a toggle switch on the handlebars.

It'll allow him to shift gears with his hands.

It'll also have room on the back to carry his wheelchair. s

Lambourne plans to open his own motorcycle repair shop when he graduates. He also plans to take a trip to Myrtle Beach when he and his classmates finish building his trike.
