March 20, 2008A ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of a new Davidson County Community College satellite center called Davie Education Center will take place Monday, April 14th at 10:30 a.m.
The Davie Education Center is located in Advance at 120 Kinderton Boulevard, adjacent to the Bermuda Run Town Hall. The new center will offer expanded continuing educational opportunities for citizens in the fast-growing northeast portion of Davie County.
DCCC operates a Davie campus in Mocksville as well as the Davidson Campus located between Lexington and Thomasville. Additional college satellite sites were established in Lexington and Thomasville in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
The Davie Education Center will consist of 3,500 square feet of space located in Suite 110 of a professional office complex known as the Kinderton Center. The space was purchased by the Davidson County Community College Foundation to better serve this portion of Davie County.
Lee Rollins and Neal Foster represent Davie County on the DCCC Board of Trustees. Both said the Davie Education Center would benefit the community.
“The DCCC Foundation and the College were very proactive in leveraging the quality of development and activity within Kinderton and providing a strategically convenient location for eastern Davie County citizens, in particular, to gain access to services without having to leave the county. It is truly a win-win,” said Lee Rollins, who lives in Mocksville.
“DCCC provides so much for the citizens of our area as well as the businesses. The college is important to economic and workforce development because of the quality academic programs and continuing education it provides,” said Neal Foster, a resident of Advance.
The Davie Education Center will consist of a distance-learning lab where real-time videoconferencing will link students with the Davie and Davidson campuses of DCCC and with other videoconferencing sites all over the world.
In addition, the center will house a registration and information area, four classrooms, two staff offices and a break room.
A DCCC Small Business Center will be located at the Davie Education Center as part of a statewide network that provides free small business education and training, business counseling, information and referral services.
DCCC Small Business Center Director Toby Roytson will be available to help the citizens and entrepreneurs of Davie County start new small businesses. He also helps owners of existing small businesses with less than 100 employees increase their profitability.
