Thursday, April 24, 2008 — Two-time Stanly County Player of the Year and the 2008 RRC Player of the Year Darryl Currie signed to play with Davidson County Community College on Wednesday. Currie is flanked above by his parents, Darryl, Sr. and Ruth Currie. Back row, left to right, are Tammy Thomas, his sister; AHS Coach Al Andrew; Davidson Community Head Coach Matt Ridge; Davidson Community Assistant Coach Brandon Mullis; and Maxine Brown, his aunt.
Coach Ridge said of his latest recruit, “I think Darryl’s a steal and expect him to be a big part of our program. He’s long and athletic and we’ve got huge expectations for his rebounding. At this level, it’s hard to win without rebounding. We hope that going forward that we can be the springboard for Darryl to big time basketball.”
AHS Coach Al Andrew said of Currie, “He’s the main reason we won 24 ball games this year. He improved tremendously from his junior to senior years and his best basketball is ahead of him. Darryl has such a great upside to his game and this is a good place for him to start.”
