Davidson County Community College Thomasville Education Center will offer the following Basic Skills and Continuing Education classes beginning March 17, 2008. These classes are featured in the Spring 2008 Continuing Education Courses Registration Guide on pages 18 - 35. For additional information, please call 476-7891. Copper Foil – Stained Glass – CID #12241
A beginning stained glass course employing the copper foil method of stained glass. You will learn the art of cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering glass to complete a small panel from patterns provided by the instructor. All tools will be provided.

Pottery: Using Specialty Glazes – CID #12149
Come and learn the way to apply Low fire Opaque and Translucent Glazes to your work from a master. Class will also work with glazes for shaving cream as well as soap. Bring your lunch for the half-hour lunch break.

Cake Decorating II – CID #12092
This class will be a continuation of Basic Cake Decorating. Students should bring Wilton Cake Decorating Kit 2 and book to first class.

Making Candy – CID #12146
Create homemade candies for your favorite holiday. Each student will get hands-on practice in this workshop and even take home samples. An assortment of candies will be covered such as chocolate, peanut brittle, centers, mints and others. Supplies will be provided by the instructor for an additional cost.

Decorating Fondant and Tiered Cakes – CID #12185
Students must have taken Basic Cake Decorating or Cake Decorating II to take this course. They will learn the intricacies of specialty fondant frosting used in the most beautifully decorated cakes. Their experienced instructor will also cover the design and engineering of assembling all sizes of tiered cakes, especially wedding cakes. Each student should bring Wilton Kit 3 to the first class.

Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Designed to instruct adults of all ages who did not complete their education through the public schools. Course work is done in the areas of basic reading, English, math, spelling, and writing. Classes for non-readers are available. Helps prepare adults who want to earn an Adult High School Diploma or GED. Students work at their own rate and receive individual help and guidance as needed. There is no registration fee and books are furnished free. Students may enroll at any time.

General Educational Development (GED)
Designed as a means for adults to obtain a high school diploma credential.
Individuals take the GED exams to demonstrate high school level
competencies in English, social studies, science, reading, and math. Preparation is on an individualized basis. The GED program is sponsored by the American Council on Education; the GED is the legal equivalent of a North Carolina High School Diploma. The only cost is a $7.50 GED testing fee.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
Designed especially for adults whose native language is not English.Instruction is offered in conversation, pronunciation, vocabulary, basic reading and writing, spelling, and English grammar.
Registration is open: students may begin on any class date during the semester. Classes are offered at no cost to the student. Books and materials are also provided free of charge.

The Thomasville Education Center is located in Thomasville on Randolph Street. If you are coming to the Thomasville Education Center from the Greensboro area on I-85, take Exit 103 for Highway 109 and turn right onto Highway 109 North/Randolph Street. From the Salisbury area on I-85, take Exit 103. Turn left onto Highway 109 North/Randolph Street. From the Winston-Salem Area, follow U.S. 52 South to Lexington Exit 92 for Highway 8, then take Business I-85 North. Take the Highway 109 South/Salem Street exit. Cross the railroad tracks in downtown Thomasville. Salem Street will become Randolph Street.
