The Davie Campus of Davidson County Community College will offer the following classes beginning April 14, 2008. These classes are featured in the Spring 2008 Continuing Education Courses Registration Guide on pages 18 - 35. For more information, please call Davie Campus Office at 336-751-2885.

Nursing Assistant I
This course introduces basic nursing skills required to provide personal care for patients, residents, or clients in a health care setting. Upon successful completion of the course, the student is eligible to make application for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Examination necessary for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry. Conviction of certain crimes under the law may prevent students from obtaining clinical training and/or employment. Course offered in both traditional and hybrid formats. Nursing Assistant II
This course prepares graduates to perform complex nursing skills for patients or residents in a health care setting. Upon successful completion of this course and skills/competency evaluation, the graduate will be eligible to apply for listing by the North Carolina Board of Nursing as a Nurse Aide II. To qualify for this program you must have the following: Copy of High School Diploma or GED; Proof of Nurse Aide I Training (Certificate of Completion or Transcript from training school); Current Listing as a Nurse Aide I (obtained from www.ncnar.org website); Current CPR card; Photo ID and government issued ID (ex: driver’s license and social security card). Health Unit Coordinator
This course prepares students for clerical positions in hospitals and long-term care facilities. The Health Unit Coordinator performs non-nursing, organizational duties and coordination of health care activities. Content includes terminology, scheduling, order entry, and recordkeeping. Business Office Skills - CID # 10859
The basics of Windows and MS Office Products will be taught in 5 & 10-hour modules. Students can attend 1 or all of the modules with the charge of $60 plus and a $5 lab fee. Pre-requisite: Windows Introduction or equivalent experience. TRCs: 1.0 per 10 hours of attendance.

Learn how to use the features of MS FrontPage to create a website. Topics covered include creating, formatting, enhancing, and maintaining web pages.

Outlook is a program that allows you to organize all of your personal information in a single place. Outlook can help you manage your calendar, contacts, e-mails, and tasks.

Welding Applications – CID #12270
This class allows the student to focus on an area of interest or to develop a particular skill set. Students can attend 1 or all modules. Total cost of the class is $71.25 which includes the $60 registration fee, $1.25 required insurance, $5 technology and $5 materials fees. Pre-requisite: Basic Welding or equivalent experience.

Module I: Shop & Cutting Overview
This course will introduce students to shop safety through videos, discussion and exposure to various tools/equipment. Students will learn about metal selection/identification as well as how to measure, cut, grind and prep metal. Emphasis will be on straight line, curve and bevel cutting using oxy-fuel and plasma-arc equipment.

Get friendly with your computer! From how to start it up through saving your work, you’ll get familiar with your personal computer. Discover the difference between hardware and software. This course is not sponsored by the Board. Handouts will be provided. This course is self supporting, and all students will pay the registration fees.

DMV Motor Vehicle Dealer License Renewal – CID #12056
This course meets the requirements by the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles for continuing education hours for North Carolina independent auto dealers. The course will include a study of dealer laws, regulations, DMV regulations, Federal laws and rules, and proper record keeping.

Seafood 101 – CID #12093
Straight from the ocean to your kitchen! Chef Chad and his students will prepare a number of dishes that will leave you wanting more. Poached, pan-seared, baked, sauteed, broiled and pan-cooked salmon, scallops, shrimp, whitefish and or tilapia have never tasted so good. Bring knife, cutting board, drink and apron.

Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Designed to instruct adults of all ages who did not complete their education through the public schools. Course work is done in the areas of basic reading, English, math, spelling, and writing. Classes for non-readers are available. Helps prepare adults who want to earn an Adult High School Diploma or GED. Students work at their own rate and receive individual help and guidance as needed. There is no registration fee and books are furnished free. Students may enroll at any time.

General Educational Development (GED)
Designed as a means for adults to obtain a high school diploma credential.
Individuals take the GED exams to demonstrate high school level
competencies in English, social studies, science, reading, and math. Preparation is on an individualized basis. The GED program is sponsored by the American Council on Education; the GED is the legal equivalent of a North Carolina High School Diploma. The only cost is a $7.50 GED testing fee.

Tuesday & Thursday 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
Designed especially for adults whose native language is not English.Instruction is offered in conversation, pronunciation, vocabulary, basic reading and writing, spelling, and English grammar. Registration is open: students may begin on any class date during the semester. Classes are offered at no cost to the student. Books and materials are also provided free of charge.

Adult High School Diploma
The AHS program provides an opportunity to earn a high school diploma for those who may not have completed high school. Students may be given credit for those courses completed and passed in high school. Students work in the program at their own pace and receive individual help and guidance from teachers. Books are furnished free by DCCC.
