DCCC Brings Art to the People Through Original Art Exhibits Twice Each Year
Since the year 2000, students and citizens of Davidson and Davie counties have been enlightened, inspired and educated as they viewed a variety of original artwork on campus, much of which has been shown at state and national exhibits and museums.
DCCC co-sponsors a new juried art exhibit each fall and spring semester in the Mendenhall Building on the Davidson Campus. Established in conjunction with Arts United of Davidson County, the exhibits promote visual arts and arts education by providing artists from all over the United States with a place to show their work to an appreciative audience, many of whom have not had the opportunity to see original art before. The exhibits and opening receptions are open to the public at no charge.
As students, staff, faculty and college visitors view the art; they often comment that the college enriches its learning environment by bringing quality pieces of original art to the college community. By attending the opening reception for each show and meeting the artists, viewers get a rare, behind the scenes glimpse of the artists’ vision and motivation behind their diverse works. These include oil and watercolor paintings and landscapes, photography, sculpture, pottery, charcoals, colored pencil and pen and ink drawings.
Professional artists are selected to display their artwork at DCCC by an art exhibit coordinator, and they often tell her they appreciate the opportunity to share their art forms through gallery walks and discussions allowing them to hear local observations and opinions about their work.
