Winston Salem Journal

LEXINGTON, N.C. (AP) -- Davidson County Community College has received its largest donation, $7.5 million from a supporter who died earlier this year.

College officials on Tuesday announced the gift from the late Christine Harris, who died in August at age 87.

Director of external affairs Jenny Varner says there are no restrictions on the money. The school is working on plans for the money.

Varner says Harris became interested in the school when her son attended and graduated in 1975.

Her husband worked for Lexington Telephone Company for 55 years. He was executive vice president, treasurer, assistant secretary and on the board when he died in 2003 at age 88.
