A computer skills course and employability lab designed to help adults who want to be successful in their current jobs or future career are being offered through the Human Resosurces Development (HRD) program at Davidson County Community College.
Computer Skills for College offers training to students who do not pass the computer placement requirements for enrollment in curriculum/credit programs. Students completing the alternative course will not be required to take the admissions computer skills assessment.
Computer skills needed to enroll in this new course include average keyboarding and mouse skills, familiarity with saving and retrieving data and a basic understanding of Windows. Microsoft Word and Excel will be introduced.
The course meets July 11-15, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The HRD Employability Lab is open Monday-Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the Employment Security Commission (ESC) office on West Center Street Extension in Lexington. The lab focuses on building work-related skills such as reading, writing and math and prepares students for the Career Readiness Certificate. One-on-one assistance is offered to students as they seek to successfully enter the workplace or college.
HRD classes and programs are offered free of charge to those who are unemployed, have been notified of an impending layoff or meet eligibility requirements. For more information about HRD courses, contact Cynthia Krider at 336-224-4574 and for employability lab services, contact Susan Ellis at 336-224-4577.
