Waugh came to DavidsonWorks in January 2010 and enrolled in the welding program, where he was a top student, and also won a scholarship and entered an "on the job" training program through the TriadWorks Transitional Employment Program. He landed a job with Wolverine Proctor, became a certified welder this spring and has even been promoted to a crew leader.
Waugh thanked the DavidsonWorks staff for helping him make a difficult transition and getting on a career path he loves.
"It does work — Davidson does work," he said.
Pam Walton, DavidsonWorks career services and programs manager, introduced Mike McGee, who lost his job in the construction business in late 2008 and came to DavidsonWorks in early 2009, where he was advised to pursue an associate degree in networking systems at DCCC.
"When you get to a certain age, going back to school can be a little scary," McGee said. "But I did find some people older than me."
